City Quilter’s Cathy Izzo hosts new quilting videos
32 short videos answering many of the basic questions beginning quilters might ask have been launched on the Internet by one of the leading online help providers, Howcast. Known for high-quality, authoritative content, Howcast has 20 million unique views of its videos every month across its multi-platform distribution network, which includes the web and almost two million app-based downloads by iPhone, iPad, Android, and BlackBerry devices. The sequential segments range from “How to Choose a Fabric for a Quilt” and “Quilting Tools You Need” to “How to Quilt Stipple” and “How to Attach Quilt Borders.” (A full list of topics is attached). An additional segment in the package is a profile of Cathy Izzo and The City Quilter.
This programming was produced by Howcast at The City Quilter, and all the sewing was done on a Bernina 550 machine since the store is a dealer for the New York metro area.
Cathy Izzo, The City Quilter’s CEO, said right after production wrapped: “It’s been 17 years since I left television to open our quilting and fabric store, and I had forgotten how exhausting television production is; but it was more than worth it to introduce quilting to thousands of beginning quilters around the World. Since each video is tagged as coming from The City Quilter, I was naturally pleased to bring our store to new audiences.”
With tens of thousands of short, helpful, high-quality videos to choose from, Howcast is recognized for helping people learn about pretty much anything. Since its opening in February, 1997, The City Quilter has served New York’s quilters and other fiber artists as well as all those interested in fine cotton fabric.
In addition to fabric, the shop has an extensive selection of quilting and sewing notions, books, Bernina sewing machines, and gifts. The shop’s classroom offers more than 150 different classes each year, with classes taking place 50 weeks a year, seven days a week. Its growing “City Collection” of New York iconic fabrics (now up to six) is designed and exclusively available from The City Quilter. The contiguous ArtQuilt Gallery•NYC is the only gallery in New York focused on contemporary art quilts, featuring the best quilts from around the world. This 4,500 square foot store is located at 133 West 25th Street, in Manhattan’s Chelsea district.
